Jada Pinkett Smith Joins in The Cast of Knives Out 2

Jada Pinkett Smith appears to have been secretly added to the cast of Knives Out 2.

While no formal announcement of her addition to the cast has been made, she appeared onset of the film, which just started shooting in Greece this week. She isn’t the only star that secretly joined the project. Ethan Hawke also appeared on set.

Smith and Hawke join Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monae, Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Madelyn Cline and Jessica Henwick. While the aforementioned are new to the project, they join Daniel Craig who will reprise his role as the clever private investigator Benoit Blanc.

Rian Johnson will also return to direct and is also producing with Ram Bergman under their T-Street banner.

Plot details are unknown at this time other than Daniel Craig’s enigmatic southern detective Benoit Blanc will be attempting to solve another murder-mystery revolving around a large cast of suspects.

The original Knives Out starred LaKeith Stanfield, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer, Michael Shannon, and Toni Collette. The plot of the first film followed the mystery of world-renowned crime novelist, Harlan Thrombey, who was found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday. That is when we are introduced to the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc, who is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.

As for the sequel, cast details are unknown. However production is underway in Greece. According to various media reports, shooting locations are reported to be Spetses, an affluent island off the northeastern Peloponnese coast and nearby Porto Heli, in the area known as the Greek Riviera. The film is expected to conclude shooting in Greece by the end of July or August.

Knives Out was released via Lionsgate in 2019, garnering an Oscar nomination and $311.4 million at the box office on a $40 million budget. Moving forward, Netflix has the rights. The streamer acquired the franchise in a massive $469 million deal that includes two sequels and the contingency that Craig must star in the sequels. Also that each film must have at least the $40 million budget of the 2019 original.
