Delroy Lindo, DeVon Franklin, and Lawrence Lamont Among 2026 AAFCA Special Achievement Honorees

The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) has revealed the recipients of its 2026 Special Achievement Awards, recognizing leaders, innovators, and institutions making a lasting impact on film and culture. The honorees will be celebrated during two signature events early next year.

At the 17th Annual AAFCA Awards on February 8, 2026, at The Maybourne Beverly Hills, the following industry figures and organizations will be recognized:

  • Delroy Lindo – Beacon Award
  • DeVon Franklin – Ashley Boone Award
  • Erick Peyton – Game Changer Award
  • Jason Aidoo – Vanguard Award
  • Lawrence Lamont – Breakthrough Director
  • Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group – Impact Award

Delroy Lindo, acclaimed for his powerful performances in film and television, will receive the Beacon Award in recognition of his enduring contributions to the craft of acting and his influence on the industry. Lindo’s career, spanning decades and including standout roles in Malcolm X, Crooklyn, and Sinners, exemplifies excellence, artistry, and the impact of Black storytellers in Hollywood.

Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, led by Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman, has been honored for delivering blockbuster franchises like Spider-Man, Venom, and Jumanji while championing diverse and culturally resonant stories that reach audiences worldwide.

In addition, the AAFCA will honor another group of industry leaders and institutions at its Special Achievement Awards Luncheon on March 1, 2026, at the Los Angeles Athletic Club. This year’s luncheon honorees include:

  • Nikkole Denson-Randolph – Spotlight Award
  • Lorrie Bartlet – Salute to Excellence
  • Michelle Satter – Film Advocate Award
  • Sony Pictures Classics – Stanley & Karen Kramer Award

Satter, founding senior director of artist programs at the Sundance Institute, has mentored generations of filmmakers through the Sundance Directors and Screenwriters Labs. Her work supporting creative freedom and risk-taking has shaped the careers of many of today’s leading directors and writers, leaving a lasting mark on global independent cinema.

Sony Pictures Classics, known for championing bold, socially conscious storytelling, will receive the Stanley & Karen Kramer Award for its dedication to filmmaker-driven narratives and culturally relevant films that resonate with audiences worldwide.

Gil Robertson, AAFCA president and co-founder, highlighted the significance of the honorees, saying, “Our Special Achievement honorees represent leadership, vision, and courage at every level of the industry. From creative executives and advocates behind the scenes to institutions amplifying bold storytelling, these honorees embody the values AAFCA was founded to celebrate.”

The 17th Annual AAFCA Awards also recently named the year’s top films and performances. Sinners dominated with eight wins, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Writing for Ryan Coogler, and Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan. Other notable winners included Tessa Thompson for Best Actress in Hedda, Damson Idris for Best Supporting Actor in F1, and KPop Demon Hunters as Best Animated Feature.

With these recognitions, AAFCA continues to spotlight the creative voices, performances, and institutions shaping the future of film and storytelling globally.
