9-1-1 is finally making it official — Corinne Massiah and Elijah M. Cooper have been promoted to series regulars for the ABC drama’s upcoming ninth season.
Following the heartbreaking death of Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) in the Season 8 finale, Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) will likely be leaning even more on her family — including her two children, May and Harry Grant. This shift could open the door for deeper family storylines, showing how the Grants navigate grief while still managing the chaos of first responder life in Los Angeles.
Massiah, who plays May, originally joined 9-1-1 as a recurring character in Season 1 before being upped to a regular in Seasons 2–5. She stepped back to a recurring role while her character attended USC and she pursued her sociology degree at UCLA, graduating just two months ago. May’s journey has taken her from being a high-achieving teen to finding her own voice as a 9-1-1 dispatcher, often stepping into high-pressure situations that mirror her mother’s resilience.
Cooper, who plays Harry, has recurred since Season 7. The role was previously played by another actor in Seasons 1–5, with Harry absent in Season 6 after going to live with his father. His return to the main cast suggests viewers will see Harry reestablish his place in the family, possibly exploring how time away has shaped him — and how he and Athena rebuild their relationship.
They join a Season 9 lineup that includes Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, Ryan Guzman, and Gavin McHugh.
Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, 9-1-1 follows police officers, firefighters, and dispatchers navigating life-and-death emergencies and the personal challenges that come with them. Season 9 premieres October 9 on ABC and streams next day on Hulu.
