‘Beyond the Gates’ Casting: Kandi Burruss and Tabitha Brown Are Headed to Fairmont Crest

Kandi Burruss and Tabitha Brown are joining CBS daytime soap Beyond the Gates, with their first appearances airing Thursday, October 22. Burruss will play Kalista Kilroy, while Brown debuts as Tia Allen, according to Michael Fairman TV. Both names appeared in the show’s closing credits earlier this week ahead of the announcement.

Their arrival coincides with an episode centered on celebrating Dani Dupree, played by Karla Mosley, and her accomplishments, a celebration that takes a turn when an unexpected guest resurfaces unresolved family tension. Naomi, Chelsea, and Andre are left to deal with the fallout, though it remains unclear whether Burruss’s or Brown’s characters are directly involved in that confrontation. Early previews also suggest Burruss’s character has some kind of connection to Bill Hamilton that’s already raising eyebrows within the show’s world.

Burruss and Brown join a growing list of reality TV and digital personalities crossing into Beyond the Gates, following Real Housewives of Potomac stars Karen Huger, Gizelle Bryant, and Wendy Osefo. That pattern reflects how the show has used high-profile guest casting to draw existing fanbases toward a genre, daytime soap opera, that’s had little new network competition in over two decades. Both actresses also share a prior television connection: Burruss played Roselyn Perry across 22 episodes of Showtime’s The Chi, while Brown played Octavia on the same series, a detail that adds some notable overlap to their respective résumés heading into this new role together.

Beyond the Gates premiered in February 2025 as the first new American network daytime soap in more than 25 years, created by Michele Val Jean and produced by CBS Studios and the NAACP in partnership with P&G Studios. Centered on the wealthy, predominantly Black Dupree family in an affluent Maryland community outside Washington, D.C., the show has since expanded beyond CBS and Paramount+, with Pluto TV launching a dedicated free channel for the series in August 2025. Cast member Tamara Tunie has described the show’s timing as significant, noting it reflects a part of Black life and culture that’s long been part of the country’s history while still offering the kind of universal storytelling soap operas have always relied on.

With Burruss and Brown’s full roles still largely under wraps, the next thing to watch is how deeply their characters get woven into the Duprees’ world, and whether either stays on as a recurring presence beyond this single celebration episode.
