A24’s ‘The Drama’ Trailer Teases a Confession That Turns a Wedding Week Into a Psychological Meltdown

An official trailer for The Drama has arrived, offering a sharper look at the unraveling relationship between Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Robert Pattinson just days before their wedding.

What begins as a picture-perfect engagement—dance lessons, speeches, and last-minute wedding prep—quickly spirals after a dinner with friends turns confessional. Prompted by another couple (played by Alana Haim and Mamoudou Athie), Emma and Charlie are asked to reveal the worst thing they’ve ever done before getting married. One admission, in particular, appears to be a point of no return.

The trailer never fully reveals Emma’s secret, but its aftermath is loud: a car crash, explosive arguments, public meltdowns, and moments of physical and emotional volatility. At one point, Charlie hurls a chair in rage. In another, Emma pulls a knife on him. By the end, Pattinson’s character deadpans, “It’s just… there’s some drama,” underselling the chaos we’ve just witnessed.

Directed by Kristoffer Borgli, the film continues his streak of unsettling, expectation-subverting stories following Dream Scenario. Borgli both writes and directs, leaning into psychological tension rather than traditional romance tropes.

The cast also includes Hailey Gates and Zoë Winters, with Winters appearing as the wedding photographer whose attempts to ground the couple only highlight how disconnected they’ve become.

Produced by A24, The Drama arrives in theaters April 3 and positions itself less as a love story and more as an examination of intimacy, honesty, and what happens when the truth shows up too late.
