A$AP Rocky is back on the big screen, this time bringing a sly, unpredictable energy to A24’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. The studio just dropped the first trailer for the dark dramedy, which also stars Rose Byrne, Conan O’Brien, Danielle Macdonald, and Ivy Wolk, with Mary Bronstein writing and directing.
Byrne takes center stage as Linda, a psychotherapist barely keeping it together. Her daughter falls ill, her husband is MIA, their home is falling apart—literally—and the family is forced into a rundown motel. That’s where she meets James (Rocky), the overly curious neighbor whose intentions are… unclear. The trailer teases moments of charm and menace from Rocky’s character, hinting that James may be more of a disruption than a helping hand.
O’Brien plays Linda’s increasingly antagonistic therapist, Macdonald appears as a patient, and Wolk is the motel employee keeping tabs on the chaos. The film had its world premiere at Sundance before heading to Berlin, where Byrne took home the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance. Bronstein, who drew inspiration from her own experiences as a mother, also executive produced alongside Josh Safdie.
For Rocky, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You marks another intriguing acting project following his role in Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, which premiered at Cannes and is set to hit theaters August 15th before Apple TV on September 5th. Lee even noted the striking resemblance between Rocky and Denzel Washington, saying it added a “father and son” dynamic to their scenes.
If I Had Legs I’d Kick You hits theaters October 10, delivering the kind of tightly wound, character-driven tension A24 is known for. The trailer promises a mix of biting humor and creeping dread
