The reunion is official.
Earlier this month, Anthony Anderson confirmed during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show that he will reprise his role as Mahalik in Scary Movie 6. Anderson, who first appeared in Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4, delivered some of the franchise’s most quotable and chaotic moments — and now, nearly two decades later, he’s stepping back into the parody world that helped define early 2000s comedy.
The film is set to hit theaters June 12, 2026, marking a full-circle return not just for Anderson, but for much of the original ensemble.
The Original Crew Is Back
Scary Movie 6 is leaning heavily into nostalgia by reuniting core cast members who helped turn the franchise into a box office phenomenon.
Returning cast includes:
- Anna Faris as Cindy
- Regina Hall as Brenda
- Marlon Wayans as Shorty
- Shawn Wayans as Ray
- Anthony Anderson as Mahalik
- Dave Sheridan as Doofy
- Cheri Oteri as Gail
- Chris Elliott
- Lochlyn Munro
- Jon Abrahams
This installment also marks the first time since Scary Movie 2 that the Wayans brothers are fully involved creatively. The script is written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans alongside Rick Alvarez, with Michael Tiddes directing.
New Faces Join the Franchise
Alongside the returning stars, a new wave of comedic talent is entering the parody universe.
New additions include:
- Damon Wayans Jr.
- Kim Wayans
- Heidi Gardner
- Sydney Park
- Olivia Rose Keegan
- Savannah Lee Nassif
- Cameron Scott Roberts
- Gregg Wayans
- Ruby Snowber
- Benny Zielke
Character details are being kept under wraps, but the mix of legacy cast and fresh energy suggests the sixth installment is aiming to bridge generations of comedy fans.
Trailer Drops With Scream 7
In a recent appearance on Rap Attack, Marlon Wayans confirmed that the first trailer for Scary Movie 6 will debut February 27 in theaters, attached to showings of Scream 7. It’s a fitting rollout strategy considering the original Scream was one of the primary inspirations behind the first Scary Movie back in 2000.
Wayans emphasized that this installment returns to what made the franchise work in the first place: funny characters placed in outrageous situations, rather than simply cramming in as many pop culture references as possible. His focus, he said, is making people laugh at a time when audiences could use it most.
And If This Hits…
Marlon also hinted that Scary Movie 6 could spark a larger comeback. If the film performs well at the box office, he plans to move forward with sequels to White Chicks and Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood — two cult classics that remain staples in the Wayans comedy catalog.
With Anthony Anderson officially back, the original cast reunited, and the Wayans reclaiming creative control, Scary Movie 6 feels less like a routine sequel and more like a calculated return to form — one that could usher in a new era for the franchise if audiences show up.
