Apple TV+ has officially renewed its lavish historical drama The Buccaneers for a third season. Inspired by Edith Wharton’s unfinished final novel, the series follows a group of spirited young American women who upend British high society in the 1870s — with friendship, heartbreak, and scandal in equal measure.
Series creator Katherine Jakeways shared her excitement about returning to Tintagel for another round of corsets, ballrooms, and rebellion, saying, “We couldn’t be more delighted to be lacing up our corsets, slipping on our ball gowns and running breathless across the cliffs of Tintagel for the third time to see what passionate adventures our beloved Buccaneers get up to next.”
Spoiler Alert: Season 2 Recap Ahead
Season 2 ended on quite the cliffhanger. Theo abdicated his dukedom to divorce Nan and marry Lizzy, while Nan — now free from her title and her marriage — fled Tintagel carrying a secret pregnancy she’d just confessed to her friend. The finale also introduced a new wild card: Theo’s illegitimate half-brother, Kit, who was summoned to become the new Duke of Tintagel.
Jakeways teased that Season 3 will dive headfirst into the fallout, saying, “Absolutely everything’s up for grabs, and none of the things that she thought were certain are certain anymore.”
What to Expect in Season 3
In the new season, the Buccaneers are “fighting back — and doing it together.” The story will follow Nan (Kristine Frøseth), Conchita (Alisha Boe), Mabel (Josie Totah), Lizzy (Aubri Ibrag), and Jinny (Imogen Waterhouse) as they navigate new romances, shifting loyalties, and the unpredictable politics of high society.
With a mysterious new Duke now ruling Tintagel, polite English society may finally meet its match. Or as Apple TV+ puts it — if the American girls rocked the boat before, this new “bad-boy Duke” might just sink the ship.
Returning cast members include Christina Hendricks, Leighton Meester, Mia Threapleton, Grace Ambrose, Maria Almeida, Amelia Bullmore, Fenella Woolgar, Guy Remmers, Matthew Broome, Josh Dylan, Barney Fishwick, Greg Wise, and Jacob Ifan. Jakeways will continue as writer and executive producer alongside Beth Willis and Joe Innes, with The Forge Entertainment producing for Apple TV+.
