Apple TV+’s Cape Fear Teaser Unleashes Javier Bardem in Chilling New Psychological Thriller

Apple TV+ has dropped the first teaser for its upcoming limited series Cape Fear—and it’s already shaping up to be one of the summer’s most intense watches.

The 10-episode series premieres globally on June 5, debuting with two episodes before rolling out weekly through July 31.

From creator and showrunner Nick Antosca, Cape Fear is described as a Hitchcockian psychological thriller that taps into America’s true crime obsession—while peeling back the dark secrets of one seemingly perfect family.

At the center are married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, played by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson. Their lives spiral when Max Cady—portrayed by a terrifying Javier Bardem—is released from prison after they helped put him away.

And he’s not looking for closure—he wants revenge.

“I had a good life once, too,” Max ominously declares in the teaser, as he begins to stalk and psychologically dismantle the couple. As the tension builds, Anna is forced to confront an even darker question: “Is there any way Max could know about what we did?”

Yeah… secrets aren’t staying buried here.

A Legacy Reimagined

This new take on Cape Fear pulls from deep cinematic roots. It’s inspired by the 1991 film Cape Fear directed by Martin Scorsese, which itself was a remake of the 1962 classic starring Gregory Peck—both based on the novel The Executioners.

This time around, Scorsese returns as an executive producer alongside Steven Spielberg, bringing serious prestige behind the camera.

Cast & Creative Team

The ensemble cast also includes:

  • CCH Pounder
  • Anna Baryshnikov
  • Jamie Hector
  • Lily Collias
  • Joe Anders
  • Malia Pyles

The pilot is directed by Morten Tyldum, with the series produced by UCP and Amblin Television.

Why This One Feels Different

Between Bardem’s haunting presence, Antosca’s track record (The Act, Channel Zero), and the Scorsese-Spielberg co-sign, Cape Fear isn’t just another remake—it feels like a slow-burn psychological chess match where guilt, privilege, and past sins collide.

And if that teaser is any indication… this one’s going to get real uncomfortable.
