Detective Renée Ballard isn’t done yet. Ballard — the Prime Video spinoff of Bosch starring Maggie Q — is coming back for a second season.
Inspired by Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels, the series follows LAPD Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) as she leads the department’s new and underfunded cold case division. With a volunteer team and retired detective Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) by her side, Ballard tackles long-forgotten crimes — including a serial killer’s string of murders — only to uncover a dangerous conspiracy deep within the LAPD.
Alongside Q and Welliver, the ensemble includes Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, Amy Hill, and John Carroll Lynch.
A Season 2 Pickup
Deadline reports that cast and crew have already been informed of the renewal, though Amazon MGM Studios has not commented. The news arrives nearly three months after Season 1’s 10-episode binge release on July 9.
The freshman season was a clear hit: it earned a Certified Fresh 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and drew 2.5 billion minutes viewed in the U.S. during its first month, ranking multiple times on Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming originals.
Bosch’s Past Meets Ballard’s Future
Season 2 will reportedly expand the Bosch universe further by introducing a younger version of Harry Bosch in flashback sequences. Rising actor Jack Meade-Mullarkey has been cast in the role, joining Welliver, who continues to appear in a recurring capacity.
With strong viewership, critical acclaim, and a $14.84 million California tax credit already in place, the renewal of Ballard was all but guaranteed.
Since launching in 2014, Bosch has become Prime Video’s signature crime drama, spawning Bosch: Legacy and now Ballard. With Maggie Q leading a new chapter and Bosch’s history coming into play, Season 2 is set to deepen one of the platform’s most reliable franchises.
