Barrett Doss Joins Netflix’s 'Little House on the Prairie' Reboot Alongside Jocko Sims and More

Barrett Doss is heading west. The Station 19 alum has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming Little House on the Prairie reboot, part of a new wave of actors tapped to bring fresh energy to the classic frontier tale.

Doss will recur as Emily Henderson, a sharp, warm-hearted woman who runs the General Store with charm and business savvy. According to Netflix’s character description, Emily is skilled with people and numbers — talents that allow her to thrive in the town of Independence. Her role takes on deeper meaning when she opens her home and heart to Caleb, a quiet, orphaned pre-teen played by Kowen Cadorath.

Doss’ casting was first revealed by Deadline on July 17 and quickly celebrated across social media by her Station 19 family, with co-stars Jason George, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Boris Kodjoe, and Stefania Spampinato all cheering her on.

The new Little House on the Prairie series is described by Netflix as “part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West.” The series reimagines Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic novels with a broader lens, offering a “kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”

Barrett Doss joins previously announced cast member Jocko Sims (New Amsterdam, Grosse Pointe Garden Society), who will portray Dr. George Tann — a real-life physician celebrated for his vital contributions to the Osage Diminished Reserve. Sims’ character is expected to play a key role in the community’s survival, aligning with the show’s themes of endurance and unity.

The ensemble cast continues to expand with new additions including:

  • Mary Holland (Nightbitch) as Jemma James, the town’s spirited busybody
  • Michael Hough (Obituary) as Eli James, a supportive railroad worker
  • Rebecca Amzallag (Titans) as Lacey Aubert, a glamorous outcast and card room owner
  • Thosh Collins (Echo) as Louis, the level-headed cousin of White Sun
  • Maclean Fish (Shoresy) as Adam Scott, a handsome young man unfamiliar with hardship
  • Kowen Cadorath (SkyMed) as Caleb, the orphan boy taken in by Emily

These actors join an already impressive lineup featuring Luke Bracey and Crosby Fitzgerald as Charles and Caroline Ingalls, Alice Halsey as Laura, and Skywalker Hughes as Mary. Additional leads include Warren Christie as John Edwards, Meegwun Fairbrother as Mitchell, Alyssa Wapanatâhk as White Sun, Wren Zhawenim Gotts as Good Eagle, and Xander Cole as Little Puma.

Behind the scenes, the reboot is helmed by showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries), with Sarah Adina Smith directing the pilot. The series is executive produced by Sonnenshine, Joy Gorman Wettels (13 Reasons Why), Trip Friendly, Dana Fox, and Susanna Fogel. Production is underway in Winnipeg, Canada.

Originally airing on NBC in 1974, the first Little House on the Prairie series ran for nine seasons and became a beloved staple of American television. With this new iteration, Netflix is blending nostalgia with modern storytelling, offering a grounded yet expansive take on frontier life.
