BBC and Stan Release Trailer and February Premiere Date for ‘Lord of the Flies’ Adaptation

Lord of the Flies is officially headed to screens this February.

BBC and Stan have released the first trailer for their four-part television adaptation of the classic novel, with the series set to premiere Sunday, February 8 in the UK.

The miniseries will debut on BBC One at 9pm, with new episodes airing weekly. All four episodes will also be available on BBC iPlayer on launch night. Stan will air the series in Australia, while Sony Pictures Television handles international distribution.

Written by Jack Thorne (Adolescence) and based on the 1954 novel by William Golding, Lord of the Flies follows a group of schoolboys stranded on a remote Pacific island after a plane crash — with no adult supervision. What begins as an attempt to maintain order quickly unravels into power struggles, tribalism, and violence.

The trailer teases the boys’ early efforts at cooperation, led by Ralph (Winston Sawyers) and supported by Piggy (David McKenna), before Jack (Lox Pratt) challenges that leadership and steers the group toward hunting and domination. As in the novel, the series traces the group’s descent from civility into chaos and the loss of innocence that follows.

The ensemble cast features more than 30 boys, many making their screen debuts, including Ike Talbut as Simon, Thomas Connor as Roger, Noah and Cassius Flemming as twins Sam and Eric, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice, and Tom Page-Turner as Bill.

Each episode is titled after a central character — Ralph, Piggy, Simon, and Jack — offering shifting perspectives on the boys’ psychological unraveling. Thorne’s adaptation remains faithful to Golding’s original setting in the early 1950s while digging deeper into themes of human nature, masculinity, and moral collapse. The series was developed with the support of Golding’s family.

The score is composed by Cristobal Tapia de Veer (The White Lotus), with the main theme and additional music created by Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve through Bleeding Fingers Music.

The series is directed by Marc Munden and produced by Callum Devrell-Cameron for Eleven and One Shoe Films. Executive producers include Joel Wilson and Jamie Campbell for Eleven, Jack Thorne, Marc Munden, Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC, and Cailah Scobie for Stan.

All episodes of Lord of the Flies will stream on BBC iPlayer beginning February 8. U.S. release details have yet to be announced.
