Betty Gabriel is set to star in Prima, a new indie drama that marks the feature directorial debut of Luca and Alessandro Morelli, the filmmaking duo known as The Morelli Brothers.
The film brings together a notable ensemble led by Nicola Peltz Beckham, alongside Jack Huston, Faye Dunaway, and Mira Sorvino. Gabriel, whose recent work continues to span genre and prestige projects, plays a contemporary choreographer whose arrival disrupts the rigid traditions of an elite ballet institution.
Prima centers on Margo (Peltz Beckham), a devoted prima ballerina raised under the strict guidance of her grandmother, a revered “guardian of the art” portrayed by Dunaway. When the head of the ballet company (Huston) marries Gabriel’s forward-thinking choreographer, the marriage sparks a subtle but escalating power struggle within the company. The clash between tradition and evolution begins to unravel long-standing hierarchies—and Margo herself—forcing her to question whether the sacrifices demanded by her craft are truly worth the cost.
The film is currently in production. The latest draft of the screenplay was written by Jenny Taylor-Whitehorn, adapted from a script by Allie Avital and Alia Azamat Ashkenazi, based on a story and characters created by Peltz Beckham.
Producers include Bunny Films and Will McCance (Apex, Lola). With its atmospheric setting and generational conflict at its core, Prima positions the Morelli Brothers as new voices to watch, while giving Gabriel a pivotal role in a story about ambition, legacy, and the personal toll of artistic devotion.
