Boy Band Confidential’ Trailer: Boyz II Men, NSYNC, AND MORE Expose the Dark Side of Pop Stardom in ID Docuseries

The glossy, scream-filled era of late ‘90s pop is getting a sobering reexamination.

Investigation Discovery has dropped the trailer for Boy Band Confidential, a new two-night docuseries pulling back the curtain on the boy band boom that defined a generation—and the hidden cost that came with it.

Executive produced by *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone, the special dives deep into how the music industry shaped young performers into global sensations while allegedly exposing them to exploitation, financial manipulation, addiction, and mental health struggles.

Set to premiere April 13 and 14, the series features candid interviews with some of the era’s biggest voices, including Lance Bass, AJ McLean, Nick Lachey, and Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman. Also appearing are Ashley Parker Angel and Brad Fischetti, among others.

But this isn’t about nostalgia—it’s about truth.

According to ID, Boy Band Confidential explores “the secret machinery of manufactured superstardom,” revealing how the same system that created chart-topping success stories also led to personal and professional turmoil behind the scenes. The trailer hints at shocking revelations, from missing money to emotional breakdowns, with artists reflecting on the pressures they faced at the height of their fame.

Fatone himself described the project as a long-overdue moment of honesty. “Being in a boy band was one of the greatest experiences of my life—but it also came with challenges we didn’t always understand at the time,” he shared. “This project gave all of us a chance to reflect, to be honest, and to share what really happened behind the spotlight.”

The series arrives as part of ID’s expanding slate of exposé-driven programming, following in the footsteps of projects like Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam, which examined the rise and fall of infamous music manager Lou Pearlman.

Positioned as a lead-in to the upcoming season of Hollywood Demons, Boy Band Confidential aims to reframe one of pop culture’s most celebrated eras—this time through the voices of those who lived it.
