Friday nights on CBS just got a long-term upgrade — both Boston Blue and Sheriff Country are coming back for Season 2.
The renewals come as no surprise given how both freshmen series have been dominating Fridays since their joint premiere on October 17. According to Nielsen’s Live+7 data, Boston Blue is averaging 8 million viewers per episode, while Sheriff Country isn’t far behind with 7.6 million. Their combined momentum has helped CBS win every Friday night in total viewers this season, with Boston Blue also seeing an 87% lift in streaming from last year.
“These early renewals reflect the power of character-driven storytelling, compelling narratives and the exceptional talent on both sides of the camera,” said Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment. “Audiences quickly embraced both series across broadcast and streaming.”
‘Boston Blue’ Renewed for Season 2
Led by Donnie Wahlberg, Boston Blue expands the Blue Bloods universe by following Danny Reagan’s move from the NYPD to the Boston Police Department. He’s partnered with Detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, creating a dynamic that leans into friendship, tension, and the classic “will they/won’t they” spark.
The series also pulls Danny’s family into the fold, including his son Sean Reagan (Mika Amonsen), and features appearances from Blue Bloods stars Bridget Moynahan and Marisa Ramirez. The Silver family — played by Gloria Reuben, Maggie Lawson, Marcus Scribner, and Ernie Hudson — offers the series its own version of the iconic “Sunday Dinner,” blending conversations that cross race, generation, and belief systems.
Boston Blue hails from executive producers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, with Wahlberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed also on board.
‘Sheriff Country’ Renewed for Season 2
A spinoff of Fire Country, Sheriff Country centers on Morena Baccarin’s Mickey Fox, the sheriff of Edgewater, California, whose biggest challenges come from both the crimes she investigates and the complicated family ties she can’t escape.
The series thrives on its tight character connections — including crossovers from Fire Country — and the messy, layered relationships between Mickey, her ex-husband Travis (Christopher Gorham), Deputy Cassidy Campbell (Michele Weaver), and Nathan Boone (Matt Lauria). W. Earl Brown co-stars as Mickey’s father, with whom she shares a rocky past.
Sheriff Country was created by Max Thieriot, Joan Rater, and Tony Phelan, with Matt Lopez serving as showrunner and Jerry Bruckheimer Television producing.
With both series scoring strong ratings, passionate fanbases, and growing streaming lifts, CBS is clearly betting big on its expanding Friday night universe.
