Two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo is adding another major honor to his growing list of accolades. The acclaimed actor has been selected to receive the President’s Award at the 57th NAACP Image Awards later this month.

The President’s Award recognizes special achievement and distinguished public service — and Domingo’s career over the last few years has reflected both.

This latest recognition comes just two years after Domingo took home double wins at the Image Awards, earning Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for Rustin and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for The Color Purple. This year, he’s back in the mix again with two nominations for Supporting Actor and Directing for Netflix’s The Four Seasons, which is set to return for Season 2 later this year.

The 57th NAACP Image Awards will take place February 28 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, airing live on BET and CBS.

In a statement, NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson praised Domingo’s cultural impact:

“We are honored to recognize Colman Domingo with the President’s Award for the breadth and depth of his leadership, artistry, and cultural impact. Across film, television, and theater, Colman has consistently chosen work that challenges narratives, expands representation, and centers humanity with dignity and grace. He is not only exemplary at his craft, but intentional in how he uses his platform to uplift stories that might otherwise go unheard.”

Previous recipients of the President’s Award include Rihanna, LeBron James, Spike Lee, Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter, Lauryn Hill, Muhammad Ali, and Jesse Jackson, among others.

Domingo’s momentum continues well beyond awards season. He previously won an Emmy for his role on Euphoria and is next set to portray patriarch Joe Jackson in Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua. He’s also attached to Disclosure Day from Steven Spielberg and An Innocent Girl directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

As previously announced, Viola Davis will receive the Chairman’s Award during the broadcast.

With this honor, the NAACP continues to spotlight artists who not only excel in their craft but also move culture forward — and Domingo’s impact across film, television, and theater makes this recognition feel right on time.
