Omar Epps and 2 Chainz are joining forces for a powerful new cinematic project—and the first trailer is finally here.
Directed by Christian Nolan Jones (Glitter Ain’t Gold), the film centers on Nook, a conflicted teenager played by rising talent Christopher A’mmanuel, as he tries to break free from a generational cycle of poverty and addiction. With his mother battling substance abuse and his dreams of a better life fading, Nook must make a devastating choice that will shape his future forever.
The trailer teases a tense, emotionally charged journey of survival, loyalty, and ambition in a city still rebuilding after the 1996 Olympics. Set in 2003, Atlanta is a place where trap music is rising, BMF still holds influence, and Black communities are fighting for stability—making Red Clay feel like both a personal story and a cultural snapshot.
“I tell stories through my music, always hoping people feel empowered to overcome anything,” 2 Chainz said in a statement. “Red Clay is an extension of that. Atlanta is full of resilience, and bringing Nook and Bub’s story to life—everyday folks fighting to survive—means everything to me.”
Epps added: “My inspiration to write this film came from the need to unpack brutal truths, and showcase the complexities of why Black and Brown communities normalize trauma. It’s my hope to inspire conversations which motivate people to have more grace, and compassion towards one another.”
Red Clay premiered earlier this year at the 2025 Atlanta Film Festival and features additional performances from True Blood star Rutina Wesley and newcomer Jaylan Ragin. The project is more than just a film—it’s a multimedia experience.
The soundtrack, also teased in the trailer, features music from The Isley Brothers, Ne-Yo, Lil Yachty, and more, blending the sonic soul of Atlanta with the emotional weight of the film.
“The wait is over,” 2 Chainz wrote on Instagram alongside the trailer’s debut. “With the Red Clay Soundtrack dropping soon, it’s only right we drop the trailer. Ten years in the making, Red Clay is a testament to 2 Chainz’s evolution as a storyteller, artist, and now filmmaker. The story of Nook is deeply personal—echoing 2 Chainz’s own life experiences, which he recently shared on Club Shay Shay, recalling how he started selling drugs at age 12 to support his mother.
From the caked-up Georgia red dirt to the heat-soaked afternoons of childhood, Red Clay is a poetic, powerful reminder of the memories, mistakes, and resilience that shape us.
