Apple TV has officially set the return date for Criminal Record, unveiling new first-look images from the upcoming second season of the British crime thriller led by Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo.
Season 2 will premiere Wednesday, April 22, 2026, with episodes rolling out weekly through June 10 on Apple TV+. The new season consists of eight episodes, matching the structure of the first run.
Created by Paul Rutman, the series reunites Capaldi’s Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Jumbo’s Detective Sergeant June Lenker under far more dangerous circumstances. This time, a stabbing at a political rally forces the two rival officers into an uneasy partnership. What begins as a murder investigation quickly spirals into a high-stakes undercover operation aimed at stopping a far-right bomb plot threatening the heart of London.
Season 2 also expands its ensemble. New cast members include Dustin Demri-Burns, Luca Pasqualino, Luther Ford, Lyndsey Marshall, and Peter Sullivan. They join returning cast members Shaun Dooley, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Charlie Creed-Miles.
The first season, which debuted in early 2024, earned strong critical acclaim and quickly became one of Apple TV+’s standout UK dramas, frequently mentioned alongside hits like Slow Horses and Bad Sisters. Its tense storytelling and morally complex characters helped cement it as a must-watch entry in the streamer’s British slate.
Season 2 is produced by Tod Productions and STV Studios, with Capaldi and Jumbo also serving as executive producers alongside Rutman and Elaine Collins. Direction duties are shared by Ben A. Williams and Joelle Mae David.
With its sharper political edge and an even more volatile partnership at the center, Criminal Record looks ready to raise the stakes when it returns this spring.
