‘Cross’ Isn’t Slowing Down — Prime Video Renews Hit Thriller for Season 3

Prime Video isn’t slowing down on Cross. The streamer has officially renewed the Aldis Hodge-led thriller for a third season, doubling down on one of its strongest-performing global series.

The upcoming season will consist of eight episodes and continue streaming in more than 240 countries and territories, further expanding the reach of the Alex Cross universe. Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios, the series is based on characters created by bestselling author James Patterson and developed for television by Ben Watkins.

Since its debut, Cross has proven to be more than just another crime drama—it’s become a global hit. Season one pulled in over 40 million viewers within its first 20 days and ranked as the third most-watched premiere on Prime Video in 2025. It also hit #1 in more than 100 countries, reinforcing its international appeal. By the time season two premiered, the show had already secured a spot in Nielsen’s Top 10 original series rankings for that week.

And the recognition didn’t stop with viewership. The series earned major wins at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for Ben Watkins, while Aldis Hodge took home Best Performance in a Drama Series at the NAMIC Vision Awards.

At the center of it all is Hodge’s portrayal of Alex Cross—a character long beloved in literature but now fully redefined for television. His version leans into both the intellect and emotional depth of the detective, grounding the show’s high-stakes storytelling in something more personal.

According to Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, that balance is exactly what’s fueling the show’s success. He noted that Cross continues to resonate because of its layered characters, suspense-driven storytelling, and emotional core, with Hodge anchoring it all through a performance that brings both intelligence and heart.

Season two raised the stakes even further, following a new case involving a billionaire under threat and a string of connected murders. As Cross teamed up with FBI Agent Kayla Craig, the investigation unfolded through a series of disturbing clues, while his partner John Sampson found himself navigating an unexpected personal connection.

The current cast includes Aldis Hodge, Matthew Lillard, Jeanine Mason, and Wes Chatham, alongside returning ensemble members Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd, and Johnny Ray Gill.

With a third season now confirmed, Cross continues to position itself as a cornerstone for Prime Video’s original slate—one that blends mainstream appeal with a character-driven approach that keeps audiences locked in.
