Cynthia Erivo & Misty Copeland Deliver a Mesmerizing Live Reimagining of “No Good Deed” Ahead of ‘Wicked: For Good’ [VIDEO]

Nearly a decade after their first spontaneous collaboration, Cynthia Erivo and Misty Copeland — two powerhouses of Black excellence in music and dance — reunite for a breathtaking reinterpretation of “No Good Deed.” This live performance marks a full-circle moment for both artists as they step into new eras of creativity and transformation.

Stripped down to its emotional core, Erivo delivers a raw, haunting version of the Stephen Schwartz classic, her voice lifted by the aching simplicity of violinist Lucia Micarelli and cellist Eric Byers. It’s an intimate, soul-stirring reminder of why Erivo remains one of the most dynamic vocalists of her generation.

Stepping into her first public performance piece since retiring from American Ballet Theatre, Misty Copeland channels the song’s power and vulnerability through movement. Guided by choreographer Kyle Abraham, she gives a visceral, deeply felt interpretation that mirrors Elphaba’s inner storm — a dance the camera never looks away from.

Directed by Lauren Finerman, the piece serves as a cinematic conversation between voice and body. It’s a collaboration rooted in trust, legacy, and shared artistic language — one that began unexpectedly in 2016 when the two women created an impromptu duet during a Cosmopolitan photoshoot, with Erivo singing “Summertime” a cappella as Copeland danced around her.

This new performance honors that history and elevates it. Watch the full performance here.

And with Wicked: For Good hitting theaters November 21, the release couldn’t be more timely. Erivo stars as Elphaba alongside Ariana Grande’s Glinda, with the film introducing brand-new songs by Stephen Schwartz, including “No Place Like Home.” The cast also features Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Peter Dinklage, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, and newcomer Bode.
