Danai Gurira has joined Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Daisy Edgar-Jones in Netflix’s upcoming heist thriller, Here Comes the Flood, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Fernando Meirelles.
Also boarding the cast are Sean Harris, Moisés Arias, and Justin Kirk. The project is now filming in New Jersey.
Written by Simon Kinberg (Mr. & Mrs. Smith), Here Comes the Flood is described as a twist-heavy, unconventional heist story following a bank guard, a teller, and a master thief locked in a dangerous game of deception and double-crosses. The story is said to unfold in a nonlinear format, with romance and betrayal woven into the scheme at the center of the plot. Kinberg and Audrey Chon via Genre Films, Meirelles are producers with Samson Mucke and Katia Washington on the project as executive producers.
Gurira continues stacking major projects following Black Panther and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Her upcoming slate includes Apple and Skydance’s Matchbox and Amazon MGM’s The Thomas Crown Affair.
Netflix landed the project in a competitive bidding war in 2020, signaling early confidence in the script and creative team. Five years later, the streamer is rolling cameras with a stacked ensemble and a filmmaker known for visually charged thrillers and character-driven drama.
Production is underway, with release details to follow.
