Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple, Peacemaker) and Rhenzy Feliz (The Penguin, Encanto) are the latest names to join Cameron Diaz in Netflix’s action comedy Bad Day.
The film, directed by Jury Duty’s Jake Szymanski, follows a single mom fighting to keep one small promise to her daughter on the worst day of her life. Written by Laura Solon, the project has been described as a comedic spin on Joel Schumacher’s Falling Down.
Alongside Diaz, Brooks, and Feliz, the ensemble also includes Ed O’Neill (Modern Family), Jessica Belkin (The Hunting Wives), John Higgins (A Man Called Otto), and Emma Pearson (The Artist). O’Neill will portray the mom’s cantankerous father-in-law, while Brooks and Higgins play NYPD detectives on her trail.
The project reunites Diaz with producer Beau Bauman following their Netflix hit Back in Action with Jamie Foxx. That film spent seven weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies List, reached #6 on the Most Popular List, and was the top-ranked original on Nielsen’s Streaming Charts in early 2025 with over 5.2 billion minutes viewed. Bauman is producing through Good One Productions, with Solon and Mark Moran serving as executive producers.
Production on Bad Day is slated to begin this fall on the East Coast.
