A24 is expanding the ensemble for its upcoming road-trip drama The Chaperones, bringing Danielle Deadwyler and Tim Meadows into a cast already led by David Jonsson, Cooper Hoffman, and Paul Dano.
Directed by India Donaldson and produced by Plan B alongside Robert Pattinson’s banner Icki Eneo Arlo, The Chaperones centers on an unlikely trio: a reckless young man (Hoffman) and his more hesitant partner (Jonsson), who are hired by a drug dealer (Dano) to escort a troubled teen across the country. What starts as a questionable job quickly becomes a messy, emotionally charged journey that forces each character to reckon with the choices that landed them here.
Billy Barratt plays the teen at the center of the story, joining a growing ensemble that also includes Alfred Molina and Dolly De Leon. Deadwyler stars as Jonsson’s sister while Molina steps in as Hoffman’s sleazy boss. Meadows and De Leon join the film in additional roles that remain under wraps.
The feature is based on a script by Sebastian Black and is currently in production.
Deadwyler, coming off her lead role in Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard, continues to build a diverse slate with projects like The Piano Lesson, Carry-On, and I Saw the TV Glow. Barratt recently appeared in A24’s Bring Her Back and is known for Apple TV+’s Invasion. Molina brings decades of screen experience, including recent work in The Instigators. Meadows, seen this year in Peacemaker and CBS’ DMV, and De Leon, known for Triangle of Sadness and Jackpot!, round out the film’s dynamic cast.
With a strong mix of rising stars, seasoned actors, and A24’s signature storytelling sensibility, The Chaperones is shaping up to be one of the studio’s standout projects currently in production.
