‘Dark Matter’ Season 2 Sets August Return on Apple TV+ as First-Look Photos Drop

Dark Matter is officially making its return — and the multiverse is far from done with Jason Dessen.

Apple TV+ has unveiled the first-look images and premiere date for Season 2 of its sci-fi thriller, confirming the 10-episode season will debut globally on Friday, August 28, with new episodes rolling out weekly through October 30.

Based on Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, the series continues to be led by Joel Edgerton alongside Jennifer Connelly, with returning cast members including Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley, and Amanda Brugel.

Season 1 introduced viewers to Jason Dessen — a physicist, professor, and family man who is abducted into an alternate version of his life, forcing him to navigate a maze of realities shaped by the choices he didn’t make. What began as curiosity quickly spiraled into a psychological and emotional fight to return home.

Season 2 picks up with Jason and his family seemingly safe — but that peace doesn’t last long.

As Jason’s fixation on the Box intensifies, Daniela’s growing paranoia threatens to unravel their fragile sense of normalcy. Meanwhile, Amanda and Ryan team up in a desperate search for their way back, while opposing forces — including Blair and Leighton — push forward with their own dangerous visions of control and perfection.

One major point of intrigue: while the first season fully covered the source material, Season 2 moves beyond the book. Still, fans can breathe easy knowing Crouch remains deeply involved as creator, showrunner, and co-writer, ensuring the story stays true to its original DNA.

With Apple continuing to double down on sci-fi — alongside titles like Severance, Foundation, and Silo — Dark Matter remains one of its most compelling entries in the genre.

And if Season 1 proved anything, it’s this: no matter which reality you land in, nothing about this story stays simple for long.
