Michael C. Hall is sharpening his knives once again. Showtime has renewed Dexter: Resurrection for a second season, with Hall returning as everyone’s favorite fictional serial killer, Dexter Morgan.
In a video announcement, Hall teased what’s next:
“We’ve been greenlit for another season. The writers’ room is assembling now. Details will be forthcoming, but I wanted to be the first to let you know that the story continues.”
The sequel series picks up just weeks after Dexter is shot by his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott). Awakening from a coma, Dexter discovers Harrison has vanished — sending him on a dark journey to New York City to make things right. But when Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) resurfaces with questions, Dexter’s past starts catching up fast.
Season 1 also starred Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, James Remar, and Peter Dinklage, with guest appearances from Neil Patrick Harris, Krysten Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, and David Dastmalchian.
The series — a continuation of 2021’s Dexter: New Blood — comes from showrunner Clyde Phillips, who executive produces alongside Hall, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and Marcos Siega for Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios.
The renewal follows a major pivot for the Dexter franchise. As we previously reported, Paramount has canceled Dexter: Original Sin — the prequel series exploring Dexter’s early years — after just one season. Now, the focus is fully on Resurrection, which brings Hall back onscreen as the original Dexter Morgan.
Phillips confirmed the news shortly after the renewal, noting the writers’ room is already underway. For Showtime and Paramount+, Resurrection marks the flagship title anchoring the Dexter universe moving forward.
As Hall puts it — the story’s far from over.
