Disney+ Cancels ‘Goosebumps’ After Two Seasons, Sony to Shop Series Elsewhere

Disney+ is closing the book on Goosebumps.

The horror anthology series inspired by R.L. Stine’s bestselling books has officially been canceled after two seasons. The series, which debuted in October 2023 and returned for a second season in January 2025, will not move forward at the streamer.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Disney Branded Television, Goosebumps brought Stine’s iconic book series to life for a new generation, with each season following a brand new cast, mystery, and storyline. Season 1 followed five high schoolers investigating the death of a teen named Harold Biddle, while Season 2 centered on twin siblings who discover a chilling mystery involving four teens who vanished in 1994.

The cast of Season 2 included David Schwimmer, Ana Ortiz, Jayden Bartels, Sam McCarthy, Elijah M. Cooper, Francesca Noel, and Galilea La Salvia. Season 1 starred Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price.

Though the series saw success early on — with Season 1 landing on Nielsen’s Top 10 original streaming list for four weeks — Season 2 didn’t reach the same level of traction. Still, the series racked up an impressive 118 million viewing hours worldwide, with 75 million from the U.S. and 43 million from 16 international markets.

Goosebumps was developed for television by Nicholas Stoller (The Muppets) and Rob Letterman (Detective Pikachu), who also served as executive producers alongside showrunner Hilary Winston (Community), Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty (The Boys), Scholastic’s Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman, Conor Welch (Platonic), and Erin O’Malley (New Girl).

Despite its cancellation, Sony Pictures Television is reportedly planning to shop Goosebumps to other platforms and is exploring new creative directions for the expansive IP. With over 200 Goosebumps books and spinoffs, there’s no shortage of stories left to tell.

The original Goosebumps book series remains one of the most successful of all time, with over 400 million copies in print across 32 languages. The franchise previously spawned a beloved 1990s TV series and two theatrical films in 2015 and 2018 — the first of which was also directed by Letterman.

So while this chapter on Disney+ may be over, the Goosebumps universe might not be done scaring us just yet.
