Disney Jr. Drops Premiere Date and Trailer For New Animated Family Comedy ‘Hey A.J.!’

Disney Jr. has released the first trailer for Hey A.J.!, a new animated family comedy inspired by former Super Bowl champion turned children’s book author Martellus Bennett. The series is set to debut next month and brings Bennett’s beloved book character to the screen with color, music, and heart.

Hey A.J.! centers on A.J., an imaginative young girl who transforms everyday moments into magical adventures with the help of her stuffed bunny sidekick, Theo. Designed for preschool audiences, the show blends vibrant 2D animation with relatable storytelling and energetic, imagination-driven songs the whole family can enjoy.

The series stars Amari McCoy as A.J., with Bennett voicing her father, Marty—a retired football player, mirroring his real-life journey. The voice cast also includes Jhené Aiko as Siggi, Juliet Donenfeld as Jessie, Innocent Ekakitie as Jazz, and David Mitchell as Theo.

A slate of notable guest voices will appear throughout the season, including Lena Waithe, Meghan Trainor, Cristo Fernández, Bootsy Collins, Kate Micucci, Maulik Pancholy, Calum Scott, and retired NASA astronaut and engineer Leland Melvin, who guest stars as himself.

Bennett, who played 10 seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 2017, created Hey A.J.! as a book series for his daughter, Jett. Since retiring from football in 2018, he has focused on storytelling as an author and illustrator, expanding his imaginative universe for young readers and viewers alike.

The animated series is executive produced by Bennett alongside Emmy winner Jeff “Swampy” Marsh (Phineas and Ferb) and GRAMMY-nominated songwriter and producer Michael Hodges of Surfing Giant Studios.

Hey A.J.! will premiere with a marathon of its first seven episodes on Tuesday, January 13, airing from 7:00–10:15 a.m. ET/PT on Disney Jr., and later that day on Disney Channel and Disney Jr. On Demand. Episodes will begin streaming on Disney+ on Wednesday, January 14, with additional episodes rolling out later in the year.

The newly released trailer offers a first look at A.J.’s big imagination—and the joyful world built around it.
