Don Cheadle Among 5 Cast in in Elijah Bynum’s Dark Comic Crime Thriller ‘My Darling California’

Oscar nominee Don Cheadle has joined the all-star cast of My Darling California, the next project from Magazine Dreams writer-director Elijah Bynum.

The dark comic crime thriller boasts an ensemble that includes Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (Weapons), Chris Pine (Hell or High Water), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Gotham Award winner Charles Melton (May December).

Set in Los Angeles, My Darling California follows how a single crime interconnects the lives of a TV host, his restless wife, a country music idol, two small-time crooks, and an ex-con — each chasing their version of the American dream and the promise of a better life.

The film is being produced by David Hinojosa of 2AM (Materialists), with Anton (Greenland) and 2AM partnering on the project. Anton will also finance and handle sales alongside CAA Media Finance at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM).

Behind the camera, Bynum has assembled an acclaimed team: Chayse Irvin (BlacKkKlansman) serves as director of photography, Leslie Jones (The Master) will edit, Judy Becker (The Brutalist) is on production design, and Erin Benach (Drive) handles costume design.

Production is expected to begin in 2026.

Bynum first broke out with A24’s Hot Summer Nights, starring Timothée Chalamet, and gained critical acclaim with his Sundance standout Magazine Dreams, cementing his reputation as one of the most distinctive new voices in contemporary American cinema.
