Dwayne Johnson to Receive Entertainment Icon Award at the 2026 ABFF Honors

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is gearing up for another major milestone — this time from the American Black Film Festival Honors. Hosted by KevOnStage, Johnson will receive the Entertainment Icon Award at the 8th annual ceremony, taking place February 16, 2026, at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. The event is presented by Nice Crowd.

The Entertainment Icon Award highlights artists whose impact spans television, film, and live performance. Johnson’s journey — from wrestling standout to global box office leader and now a contender in prestige filmmaking — fits squarely within that legacy.

His latest role in A24’s The Smashing Machine, directed by Benny Safdie, has already earned strong critical attention. Centered on the rise and personal struggles of MMA fighter Mark Kerr, the film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Lion. Emily Blunt co-stars.

Johnson is among the slate of honorees we previously reported including Jennifer Hudson (Renaissance Award), Salli Richardson-Whitfield (Evolution Award), and Damson Idris (Horizon Award). The ceremony will also feature a tribute to the creative team behind Ryan Coogler’s Sinners — Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, and Sev Ohanian — recognizing their artistic vision and cultural impact.

Since its launch in 2016 by Jeff Friday, ABFF Honors has served as the awards-season extension of the American Black Film Festival, celebrating artists whose work pushes storytelling forward. Presented by Nice Crowd, the evening remains a gathering rooted in creativity, culture, and community.

As ABFF steps into its 2026 season, Johnson’s recognition underscores the ceremony’s commitment to honoring influential voices shaping film and television today.
