‘Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback’ Trailer Drops Ahead of Peacock Premiere

Peacock has released the official trailer for its upcoming sports docuseries Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback, offering a first look at the four-part project executive produced by Maria Taylor. The series premieres Thursday, Feb. 5, with new episodes streaming weekly on Peacock.

Field Generals traces the often overlooked, frequently challenged, and deeply influential history of Black quarterbacks in professional football. Spanning from the AFL–NFL merger through the turn of the 21st century, the docuseries places their careers within a broader social and political context, examining how race, media narratives, and institutional barriers shaped both their opportunities and their legacies.

Through archival footage and in-depth conversations, the series highlights the quarterbacks who helped redefine the position—on and off the field—while confronting stereotypes that persisted even as their impact on the game became undeniable. The trailer teases a balance of personal testimony, cultural analysis, and football history, positioning the series as both a sports documentary and a reflection on American society.

The docuseries features interviews with pioneering and modern-era quarterbacks including James “Shack” Harris, Warren Moon, Doug Williams, Randall Cunningham, Vince Evans, Chuck Ealey, Rodney Peete, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, and Lamar Jackson. Additional voices include journalists, historians, and cultural commentators such as Michael Wilbon, Bomani Jones, Michael Eric Dyson, Bob Costas, and others who help contextualize the quarterbacks’ impact beyond the stat sheet.

Field Generals: History of the Black Quarterback is produced by Broadway Video, West Cedar Lane Productions, and Magic Lemonade Productions in association with NFL Films. Alongside Taylor, executive producers include Michael Yarvitz, Bill Wolff, Andrew Singer, and Eddie Michaels. Rikki Hughes serves as director and executive producer, with Jessica Boddy, Keith Cossrow, Ken Rodgers, and Ross Ketover executive producing for NFL Films.

The series begins streaming Feb. 5 on Peacock, with episodes rolling out weekly across four weeks.
