LaKeith Stanfield and Mark Wahlberg are suiting up for the ultimate score in Play Dirty, Shane Black’s long-awaited return to the director’s chair. Prime Video has unveiled the first image from the heist thriller, which debuts globally on October 1.
Wahlberg steps into the role of Parker — a professional thief first introduced in Donald E. Westlake’s classic crime novels — who’s been double-crossed and left for dead. Teaming up with smooth-talking con artist Grofield (Stanfield) and Zen (Rosa Salazar), Parker’s revenge mission spirals into a dangerous operation that pits them against a South American dictator, the New York mafia, and the world’s richest man.
Black, known for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Nice Guys, and Iron Man 3, brings his signature sharp wit and gritty edge to the project, which he co-wrote with Charles Mondry and Anthony Bagarozzi (Road House reboot). Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey produce under their Team Downey banner, alongside the writers.
The ensemble cast also includes Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Keegan-Michael Key (The Predator), Nat Wolff (Death Note), Chukwudi Iwuji (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Thomas Jane (The Punisher), and Saskia Archer.
Play Dirty marks the third adaptation of Westlake’s The Hunter following 1967’s Point Blank with Lee Marvin and 1999’s Payback starring Mel Gibson. Jason Statham also tackled the Parker character in 2013’s Parker, based on a different novel in the series.
Described as a “gritty, clever caper,” Play Dirty blends classic crime thriller energy with Black’s trademark dark humor — a combination fans have been waiting to see him bring back since his last feature, The Predator, in 2018.
Play Dirty premieres October 1, exclusively on Prime Video.
