Production has officially wrapped on The Body Is Water, the latest feature from filmmaker Vicky Wight—and we’re getting a first look at a story rooted in grief, connection, and the pull of community.
The film stars Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor alongside Isiah Whitlock Jr., marking one of his final on-screen performances. The cast also includes Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn, Allen Leech, Eva Birthistle, Fionnula Flanagan, Bronagh Gallagher, and Maria Doyle Kennedy.
Set between Houston, Texas and the rugged coastline of West Cork, Ireland, The Body Is Water follows a grieving man who retreats to a remote Irish village in search of escape—only to discover that disappearing isn’t as simple as he hoped. The town, and a mysterious young woman named Lou (along with her curious dog), seem determined to pull him back into connection.

Whitlock Jr., known for his work in from The Wire to Da 5 Bloods, stars as David Alexander Wilkins in what will stand as one of his final performances. The veteran actor passed away in New York City on December 30, 2025, at the age of 71 following a short illness. His decades-long career across film, television, and stage was defined by a steady presence and performances that consistently left an impression.
Behind the camera, Wight also produces alongside Geoff Linville (Nomadland), Sydney Augusta Huynh (The Bling Ring), and John Norton of Red Ted Media. Executive producers include Stephen Hall, Mike Jones, and Coert Voorhees.
The film is currently in post-production, with more details—including its release timeline—expected soon.
Wight has also recently completed the short documentary Zina, centered on tennis legend Zina Garrison and executive produced by Serena Williams. The film is set to premiere at the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival in April 2026.
