Gilead is calling… again.
Hulu has officially revealed the first look and premiere month for The Testaments, the follow-up series to The Handmaid’s Tale, during CCXP25 in São Paulo, Brazil. Based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 Booker Prize-winning sequel novel, the series is set to arrive on Hulu and Disney+ in April 2026.
The first photos tease returning fan-favorite Aunt Lydia, played once more by Ann Dowd, alongside a fresh generation of characters, including Chase Infiniti stepping into the role of Agnes, also known as Hannah — the daughter June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss) and Luke (O-T Fagbenle) lost in Season 1 of The Handmaid’s Tale. The ensemble also features Shechinah Mpumlwana, Lucy Halliday, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Isolde Ardies, and Birva Pandya.
The Testaments picks up years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, following a coming-of-age story of young women growing up entirely under Gilead’s oppressive regime. With no memory of life outside its walls, they face the terrifying reality of forced marriages and servitude — and must navigate a dangerous world while searching for allies to help them fight for freedom.
Halliday plays Daisy, a Canadian teen whose life is flipped upside down by her connection to Gilead. Mpumlwana is Jehosheba, a competitive young woman from a respected family. Blanchard portrays Shunammite, a pampered Gilead teen, while Ardies is Hulda, an innocent girl eager to embrace womanhood. Pandya plays Miriam, confronting the pressures of an impending marriage season.
Bruce Miller, creator and showrunner of the original series, returns as showrunner and executive producer for The Testaments, with Mike Barker directing the first three episodes. The series is also executive produced by Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, and Fran Sears, and produced by MGM Television.
While June Osborne’s presence will remain central to the story, the series shifts focus to the young women navigating Gilead. Miller told The Hollywood Reporter, “June is out there. She’s still fighting to get Hannah back. But we’re expanding into the stories of those who survive and rebel in other ways. Gilead is rife with resistance, and it’s time to explore that.”
Fans of the original series can expect The Testaments to offer both continuity and new perspectives on the dystopian world, providing an intimate look at the next generation of Gilead’s survivors.
The Testaments premieres April 2026 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ in the U.S., and internationally on Disney+. Exact premiere dates will be announced closer to launch.
