First Look at The Savant, Apple TV+’s Gripping New Series on Domestic Extremism

Jessica Chastain is going undercover in Apple TV+’s gripping new limited series The Savant, premiering Friday, September 26 with its first two episodes. New episodes will roll out weekly on Fridays through November 7.

Chastain stars alongside Nnamdi Asomugha, Cole Doman, Jordana Spiro, Trinity Lee Shirley, Toussaint Francois Battiste, and guest star Pablo Schreiber. James Badge Dale will also appear in a major recurring role. The series reunites Chastain and Asomugha, who last shared the screen in The Good Nurse.

Inspired by the 2019 Cosmopolitan article “Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?” by Andrea Stanley, The Savant follows a brilliant, unnamed undercover investigator (Chastain) who infiltrates online hate groups to stop domestic extremists before they act. The character is based on a real-life former Marine and police officer known only as “K,” who helped the FBI thwart several attacks, including a 2009 bombing attempt on an Illinois federal building.

Behind the camera, the series is led by showrunner and writer Melissa James Gibson (Anatomy of a Scandal, House of Cards). Oscar-nominated filmmaker Matthew Heineman directs and executive produces alongside Chastain, Kelly Carmichael, Alan Poul, Garrett Kemble, and David Levine. Stanley serves as a consultant on the project.

Produced by Freckle Films, Fifth Season, and Anonymous Content, The Savant explores the psychological toll of living in constant danger while trying to protect a nation—and a family—without ever being seen.

While no trailer has been released yet, first-look photos reveal Chastain and Asomugha in an intense domestic moment, hinting at the dual life her character must navigate.

With The Savant, Apple TV+ continues to deepen its slate of prestige thrillers, launching alongside high-profile fall releases like The Morning Show and Slow Horses.
