Empire Magazine’s new issue is out today, and with it comes our first official look at three of the most intriguing characters in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey. The stills confirm Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Zendaya as Athena, and John Leguizamo — nearly unrecognizable — as Eumaeus.
So… What Is The Odyssey About?
Nolan’s film is a sweeping, large-scale adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem, following Odysseus (Matt Damon) as he attempts to return home after the Trojan War. His journey spans years and crosses multiple realms — from battles with mythical creatures like Cyclopes and Sirens, to encounters with goddesses such as Circe (Charlize Theron) and Athena (Zendaya), all while enemies circle his home and suitors pursue his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway).
The story weaves mortal struggle, divine interference, and emotional turmoil into a high-stakes odyssey — literally — with Nolan grounding myth and supernatural elements in a heightened, but lived-in reality.
Who’s Playing Who?
This marks Robert Pattinson’s second collaboration with Nolan. He plays Antinous, the most aggressive suitor competing for Penelope’s hand during Odysseus’ absence.
Zendaya joins Nolan’s world for the first time as Athena, Odysseus’ protector and the goddess of wisdom.
John Leguizamo transforms into Eumaeus, the loyal swineherd who ultimately helps Odysseus reclaim his home.
