Sony has released the first trailer for Anaconda, the comedy adventure starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd that reimagines the 1997 horror cult classic. The film slithers into theaters on Christmas Day, 2025.
Directed by Tom Gormican, the movie follows lifelong best friends Doug (Black) and Griff (Rudd) who decide to remake their favorite movie — the original Anaconda. But when their DIY midlife-crisis film project takes them into the Amazon, they find themselves face-to-face with a very real, very massive anaconda. Their dream project suddenly becomes a fight for survival.
The trailer teases the chaos with Black declaring, “This is Anaconda, and we no longer have a snake for our snake movie. We have to go out in the jungle and find another one.” Rudd adds with mock seriousness, “We’re gonna shoot it indie style, one and done.”
The cast also includes Thandiwe Newton, Steve Zahn, Daniela Melchior, Selton Mello, and Ione Skye. The project is produced by Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, Kevin Etten, and Gormican, who also co-wrote the script with Etten.
The Legacy of Anaconda
The original 1997 Anaconda, directed by Luis Llosa, starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Owen Wilson, and Eric Stoltz. A box office hit, the film earned $65.9 million domestically and $136.9 million worldwide — an early career win for Lopez and Cube. It also spawned several sequels, though none matched the cult popularity of the first film.
This new take flips the horror premise into a meta-comedy, blending Hollywood satire with jungle thrills. And if the trailer is any indication, it’s leaning all the way into the absurd.
Anaconda slithers into theaters nationwide on December 25, 2025.
