‘For All Mankind’ Renewed for Sixth and Final Season at Apple TV

Apple TV is preparing for one final mission.

The streamer has officially renewed For All Mankind for a sixth and final season, bringing the long-running space drama to a close as one of its most enduring originals. The final chapter is set to debut in 2027, just ahead of Season 5’s premiere on March 27.

The announcement confirms what many behind the scenes had long hinted at—a planned ending. Series creators Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi have previously mapped out a multi-season arc, and now they’ll get the chance to land the story exactly as intended.

“Getting to explore the For All Mankind universe over six seasons has been an amazing privilege, and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to finish the story the way we’ve always hoped,” Wolpert and Nedivi shared in a statement. “We’re incredibly proud of what this series has become.”

One of Apple TV’s Defining Originals

Since launching alongside Apple TV in 2019, For All Mankind has quietly become one of the platform’s most consistent and ambitious series. Its alternate-history premise—imagining a world where the Soviet Union landed on the moon first—set the tone early, but the show’s real strength has been its ability to evolve across decades, characters, and generations.

With six seasons, the series will rank among the longest-running shows on the platform, alongside Slow Horses, which is currently renewed through Season 7.

Apple TV’s head of programming, Matt Cherniss, called the show “one of Apple TV’s most enduring and celebrated series,” pointing to its consistent ability to blend scale, character, and speculative storytelling.

What Season 5 Sets Up

Season 5 pushes the story further into the 2010s, years after the “Goldilocks asteroid” storyline, with Mars now home to a thriving colony known as Happy Valley. But expansion comes with tension.

As Earth’s governments attempt to impose control over the Red Planet, friction builds between those who live on Mars and the world they left behind—setting up a more politically charged and emotionally layered chapter.

Returning cast members include Joel Kinnaman, Toby Kebbell, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt, with new additions like Mireille Enos and Ruby Cruz joining the ensemble.

The Bigger Picture

Ending at six seasons puts For All Mankind in rare territory for the platform—not just in longevity, but in creative consistency. At a time when many streaming shows struggle to make it past two or three seasons, this kind of runway signals both strong performance and a clear creative vision.

And while the flagship series is coming to an end, the universe isn’t going anywhere. Apple is already expanding the world with the upcoming spinoff Star City, debuting May 29, signaling that the story—and its audience—still has room to grow.

For now, though, the focus is on the final stretch. One last mission. One last chapter.
