Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Arinzé Kene, and Jordan Nash (Come Away) have joined the cast of Trudie Styler’s romantic dramedy Rose’s Baby.

They star alongside Antonio Banderas (Babygirl), Eva Birthistle (Bad Sisters), Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist), Richard E. Grant (Saltburn), Eden Hamilton (The Railway Children Return), Selena Tan (Crazy Rich Asians), and Mickey Sumner (Frances Ha).

The Story

Rose’s Baby follows Álvaro (Banderas) and his ex-wife Saffron (Birthistle) as they attempt to set aside the fallout of their messy divorce for the sake of their daughter, Rose (Hamilton). The screenplay comes from Camille Griffin (Silent Night) and Chloe King (B. Monkey).

Behind the Camera

Styler is directing and producing alongside Maven Screen Media co-founder Celine Rattray, with Piers Tempest of Tempo Productions also producing. Filming began August 4 in London. Beta Cinema is handling international sales, while CAA represents North American rights.

Key department heads include Dante Spinotti (L.A. Confidential) as director of photography, Colleen Atwood (Chicago) as costume designer, Steve Summersgill (Fair Play) as production designer, Lizzi Lawson Zeiss (Blade Runner 2049) as hair and make-up designer, and editors Nathan Nugent (Room) and Walter Fasano (Call Me By Your Name). Casting was led by Robert Sterne (Game of Thrones).

First Look

A first-look image from the production has been released, offering an early glimpse at the film’s tone and ensemble.

Banderas recently wrapped A24’s Tony, the Anthony Bourdain film from director Matt Johnson, while Styler—whose previous directing credits include Freak Show and Posso Entrare? An Ode to Naples—continues to expand her body of work with stories rooted in humanity, humor, and heart.
