FreeLance, the new scripted series from The Turner Brothers, is officially headed to the 2026 Sundance Film Festival for its world premiere. The pilot will debut within the festival’s Fiction Pilot Showcase, part of Sundance’s curated Episodic section spotlighting standout new voices in comedy, drama, and documentary.

The series follows a young filmmaker—played by Spence Moore II—documenting the messy, hopeful, and wildly creative journey toward making his first movie. Living with a tight-knit circle of ambitious 20-something artists, he navigates the highs and lows of building a career in an oversaturated market. Together, the crew takes on unorthodox jobs, supports one another’s dreams, and tries to keep the lights on while chasing a bigger vision.

FreeLance stars Moore alongside Lou Young, Lou Ratchett, Bernard “B Nard” Clark, René Vaca, Elijah Cooper, KevOnStage, Christi Porter, Mel Mitchell, Kyle Flood, Jaren Bretz, and London Arrington. Behind the scenes, Moore also serves as an executive producer, joining Cynthia Turner, Stephen Love Jr., and Kevin Fredericks.

This premiere marks a key placement in Sundance’s Episodic Pilot Showcase, which allows audiences to experience the first episodes of three standout new series on the big screen. This year’s Episodic section includes seven projects selected from a record 470 submissions—part of the festival’s historic 16,201 total submissions. Notably, 40% of Sundance’s 2026 selections come from first-time filmmakers.

The 2026 Sundance Film Festival, taking place January 22–February 1 in Park City and Salt Lake City, also marks the final year the event will be held in Utah after more than four decades. The festival’s last Utah chapter highlights 90 feature films and seven episodic works from 28 countries, with a strong slate of Black and Brown creatives and leads featured throughout the lineup.

With FreeLance, The Turner Brothers and Spence Moore II bring a grounded, fresh look at young creatives finding their lane—adding an exciting new voice to Sundance’s storied history.
