FX Officially Picks Up ‘Snowfall’ Spinoff to Series Following Pilot Order

FX is officially returning to the world of Snowfall. The network has handed a series order to its untitled spinoff, led by Gail Bean and Isaiah John, who reprise their roles as Wanda and Leon Simmons. The series will debut next year on FX and Hulu.

Set in early ‘90s Los Angeles, the drama picks up after the events of Snowfall’s six-season run and follows Wanda — a recovering addict — as she sets her sights on taking West Coast rap mainstream. But as the culture rises, so does tension in the streets, with gang wars intensifying and record labels racing to capitalize on hip hop’s growing power.

Joining Bean and John are Asante Blackk (When They See Us, This Is Us), Peyton Alex Smith (All American: Homecoming), and rapper-actor Simmie Sims III, better known as Buddy.

Malcolm Spellman (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Empire) writes and executive produces, reuniting with FX after Hip Hop Uncovered. He’s joined by Snowfall creative veterans Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson. FX Productions produces.

“This new series takes us back to one of the most formative eras in music with the birth of the West Coast rap revolution,” said Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment, calling the project a breakout moment for Bean.

Created by the late John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron, Snowfall became one of FX’s most acclaimed dramas, chronicling the rise of Franklin Saint and the devastating impact of the crack era. Now, this new chapter shifts the lens to rebuild, reclaim, and redefine culture post-crisis — exploring the heart, hustle, and Hip-Hop of ‘90s L.A.

A title and premiere date will be announced soon.
