FX is continuing to build out the world of its untitled Snowfall spinoff, adding a strong group of recurring players as the next chapter of the franchise takes shape.
Mykelti Williamson, Brandon Mychal Smith, Nicki Micheaux, Zaire Adams, Demetrius Grosse, and returning Snowfall actor Quincy Chad have all joined the series in heavily recurring roles. As well as Isidora Goreshter, Eric Balfour, and Richard Portnow. They come aboard alongside previously announced series leads Gail Bean and Isaiah John, who are reprising their roles as Wanda and Leon Simmons.
The spinoff is set in 1990s Los Angeles and follows Wanda and Leon as they try to help push West Coast rap into the mainstream at a time when the culture is rapidly evolving. But while the music scene is on the rise, the streets are still volatile, with gang wars escalating and record labels looking to profit off Hip-Hop’s growing influence.
Also previously announced for the cast are Asante Blackk, Peyton Alex Smith, and rapper-actor Simmie Sims III, also known as Buddy.
The setup makes it clear this series is not simply revisiting Snowfall for nostalgia. It is using familiar characters to explore a different era in Los Angeles history — one where survival, culture, music, and ambition all collide in the middle of a major shift.
Malcolm Spellman is writing and executive producing the series. Executive producers also include Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, Trevor Engelson, and Paul Garnes. FX Productions is producing.
The original Snowfall, created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron, became one of FX’s most defining dramas, chronicling the devastation of the crack era in Los Angeles. This new chapter appears ready to pick up in the aftermath, shifting the focus toward reinvention, recovery, and the rise of West Coast rap culture.
A title and premiere date have not yet been announced.
