Gary Carr Joins Zazie Beetz and More in Apple TV+’s Psychological Thriller Adaptation of Lars Kepler’s Joona Linna Series

Gary Carr has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s upcoming adaptation of Lars Kepler’s Joona Linna book series, rounding out a powerful ensemble that includes Zazie Beetz, Liev Schreiber, Poorna Jagannathan, and Stephen Graham.

The yet-to-be-titled series centers on Jonah Lynn (Schreiber), an ex-soldier turned homicide detective who leaves behind the chaos of Philadelphia for a quieter life in a small town in Western Pennsylvania. But his peaceful new beginning is shattered when a calculating serial killer, Jurek Walter (Graham), begins targeting both the town and Jonah’s family. As the case intensifies, Jonah is forced to send his adopted daughter, FBI agent Saga Bauer (Beetz), head-to-head with the killer in a desperate attempt to rescue Jurek’s final known victim. What unfolds is a harrowing battle between good and evil, where the personal stakes are as high as the body count.

Carr will play Nathan, a skilled forensic investigator whose loyalty to Jonah runs deep—but so do his complicated, unresolved feelings for Saga. His character adds emotional depth and internal conflict to the story’s already high-stakes narrative.

Jagannathan (Lanterns, Deli Boys) will play Quinn, a D.C.-based FBI agent who finds herself relying on Jonah as she navigates the close-knit, and often guarded, small-town environment while managing her own personal upheavals.

In addition to Schreiber, Graham, and Beetz, the cast also includes Bill Camp, Rory Culkin, and Chrissy Metz.

Rowan Joffe (Tin Star) and John Hlavin (Shooter) will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, with Emmy winner Tim Van Patten (Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones) directing the first two episodes. Schreiber and Beetz also executive produce, with Beetz producing under her Sleepy Poppy banner. Other executive producers include the book’s authors Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril (collectively known as Lars Kepler), Oystein Karlsen, David Rysdahl, Dorothy Fortenberry, and Niclas Salomonsson. Julie Herrin serves as co-executive producer.

The series is produced by A+E Studios in association with Range Studios and will begin filming this summer in Pittsburgh.

Kepler’s Joona Linna series, originally published in Swedish, debuted in 2009 and has sold more than 18 million copies worldwide across ten installments, with the most recent published in 2024.
