Gbemisola Ikumelo and Danielle Vitalis Join Season 5 of Apple TV+’s ‘Trying’

Apple TV+ has rounded out the cast for Season 5 of Trying, one of its longest-running original comedies, with Gbemisola Ikumelo and Danielle Vitalis joining the series.

Created by Andy Wolton, Trying follows Jason and Nikki (Rafe Spall and Esther Smith), a couple who navigate the unpredictable challenges of parenthood after adopting. Season 4 ended on a cliffhanger, jumping forward six years and introducing the unexpected return of Kat (Charlotte Riley), the biological mother of their children, Princess and Tyler.

Ikumelo, who also stars in Apple TV+’s upcoming The Office spinoff The Paper, will play Chrissy, a jaded but dedicated social worker who mentors Jason as he takes on a new role. Colin Morgan (Merlin, Belfast) joins as Kerry, Nikki’s effortlessly cool and confident co-worker, while Celia Imrie (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Thursday Murder Club) plays Harriet, a wealthy but eccentric hoarder Jason meets during job training.

Also joining the cast are Danielle Vitalis (I May Destroy You, Attack the Block) and Leah Brotherhead (Bridgerton). While Vitalis’s role has yet to be revealed, her addition further expands the ensemble as the series enters a new chapter.

Returning cast includes Darren Boyd as Scott, Sian Brooke as Karen, Scarlett Rayner as Princess, and Cooper Turner as Tyler.

Produced by BBC Studios, Trying continues to be one of Apple TV+’s most enduring series, alongside titles like Slow Horses. Spall also currently appears in Smoke, Apple’s new crime drama from Dennis Lehane starring Taron Egerton.

Trying is created, written, and executive produced by Andy Wolton, with executive producers Josh Cole and Sam Pinell (BBC Studios) and Chris Sussman.

A premiere date for Season 5 has yet to be announced.
