Netflix is officially circling back to one of its biggest comedy franchises.
During its Upfront presentation on Wednesday, the streamer announced that Grown Ups 3 is in development, marking the return of Adam Sandler’s buddy-comedy universe more than a decade after the last installment.
The new film brings Kyle Newacheck on board to direct. Newacheck previously worked with Adam Sandler on “Happy Gilmore 2,” which became one of Netflix’s biggest streaming releases last year and reportedly set a Nielsen record with 2.89 billion minutes viewed in its first week.
The script is being written by Sandler and longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy, continuing a creative partnership that has shaped much of Sandler’s comedy run. Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Herlihy are producing, with Kevin Grady and Judit Maull attached as executive producers.
The third installment reunites the core ensemble that defined the franchise, with Sandler returning alongside Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider.
The original “Grown Ups” films, directed by Dennis Dugan, were released theatrically by Sony Pictures. The 2010 debut grossed over $270 million worldwide, followed by “Grown Ups 2” in 2013, which pulled in roughly $247 million globally despite mixed critical reception.
Now, Netflix is the natural home for the franchise’s next chapter, especially given Sandler’s long-standing deal with the platform, which has already produced more than 10 films and counting.
The film is currently targeting a 2026 production window, with filming expected to take place in Vancouver, and early reports suggesting the original cast is expected to return for what is being described as a “one last hurrah.”
After years of streaming dominance, Netflix is betting that nostalgia, friendship chaos, and Sandler’s core crew still have plenty of mileage left.
