Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry is in the final stages of negotiations to star in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming thriller Crime 101. Once she signs on the dotted lines she will join previously cast Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan.

The intense crime thriller Crime 101 is based on Don Winslow’s short story of the same name and will be directed by Bart Layton, known for his work on American Animals and The Imposter. Layton also co-wrote the screenplay and will produce alongside an impressive team, including Shane Salerno from The Story Factory and Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title. Hemsworth, who is also in final negotiations for the project, will serve as a producer through his production partnership with Ben Grayson.

Set along the Pacific Coast Highway, Winslow’s story follows a series of high-level jewel heists attributed to Colombian cartels. However, detective Lou Lubesnick suspects that these meticulously executed robberies are the work of a single, highly-skilled thief following a strict personal code he calls “Crime 101.” The thief, now searching for his final big score, sets the stage for a tense showdown that tests the limits of Lubesnick’s detective instincts.

Filming is expected to commence within the next two weeks, according to reports. Berry’s addition to the cast would further elevate a project already brimming with Hollywood talent. This year has been a busy one for the actress, who recently appeared in the survival thriller Never Let Go and the spy comedy The Union.

Crime 101 is set to be released next year, marking yet another high-profile project in Berry’s diverse and celebrated career. Berry remains the only Black woman to have won an Academy Award for Best Actress, an achievement that solidified her as a groundbreaking figure in Hollywood. Her extensive career includes notable roles in films such as Monster’s Ball, X-Men, Die Another Day, and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

With the production set to begin soon and an all-star cast, Crime 101 is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated crime thrillers in recent memory.
