Hulu Drops Trailer for ‘The Cult of NatureBoy’ Docu-Series — A Chilling Look Inside a Social Media-Driven Cult

Hulu has released the official trailer for its upcoming four-part docuseries The Cult of NatureBoy, offering a chilling, real-time look at how a modern online movement spiraled into coercion, control, and allegations of abuse—all hiding in plain sight.

Premiering April 28 on Hulu and available on Hulu via Disney+ for bundle subscribers in the U.S., the series traces the rise and fall of Carbon Nation, a group led by social media personality Eligio Bishop, known online as “NatureBoy.”

What began in 2016 as a digitally driven “back-to-nature” lifestyle community quickly evolved into something far more complex. Bishop positioned himself as a spiritual leader, recruiting followers through social media and music content, urging them to leave behind traditional society in pursuit of what he described as a Black utopia.

As the trailer lays out, that vision soon shifts into a tightly controlled environment marked by psychological manipulation, isolation from family, and escalating allegations of abuse. Former members and insiders speak directly in the series, alongside investigators who tracked the group’s online presence as it unfolded in real time.

Using extensive footage captured by the group itself, The Cult of NatureBoy examines how Carbon Nation transformed from an alternative living experiment into what authorities and researchers have described as a cult-like structure built around obedience and control.

The series also contextualizes Bishop’s legal case. He was convicted in Georgia in 2024 on charges including rape, false imprisonment, and distributing revenge porn, and sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Behind the camera, the docuseries is directed by Ben Zand and produced by ZANDLAND in partnership with ABC News Studios, with Lucie Ridout serving as showrunner. Muriel Pearson and David Sloan executive produce.

Rather than relying on retrospective commentary alone, the series leans heavily on digital breadcrumbs—live streams, social posts, and archived footage—creating a portrait of how quickly online influence can shift into real-world harm when unchecked power takes center stage.

With its mix of firsthand accounts and investigative reporting, The Cult of NatureBoy positions itself less as a true crime retelling and more as a look at how modern cult dynamics operate in the age of social media.

The Cult of NatureBoy premieres April 28 on Hulu.
