Hulu has unveiled the official trailer for Living Proof, a moving new documentary special executive produced by Emmy-winning actress, producer, and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph. The project shines a necessary spotlight on Black women whose experiences with HIV have long been overlooked in mainstream storytelling.
Set in Atlanta — a major hub of the Southern HIV epidemic — the documentary follows Freda Jones and Kennedi Lowman, co-founders of LOTUS (Loving Ourselves Thru Unity and Strength). Their grassroots organization is shifting how Black women discuss, navigate, and build community around HIV. From support circles to open conversations around prevention and PrEP, Living Proof captures the power of sisterhood, healing, and shared leadership.
The film also examines the systemic hurdles Black women continue to face, including medical discrimination, stigma, and the impact of reduced public health funding. Through Jones and Lowman’s work, the documentary showcases how Black women are reclaiming their narratives, their autonomy, and their wellness.
Directed by Zeberiah Newman, the project is executive produced by Newman, Ralph, Michiel Thomas, and Norman Lee, with music supervision and score by B. Slade. Living Proof is a collaboration between The DIVA Foundation (founded by Ralph in 1990), ABC Owned Television Stations, and Gilead Sciences.
The project follows the previous partnership between Hulu and The DIVA Foundation on the documentary Unexpected, which focused on Black mothers living with HIV and went on to earn two Daytime Emmy nominations.
