‘In the Grey’: First Trailer Reveals Guy Ritchie’s High-Risk Billion-Dollar Heist Thriller

Black Bear has released the first trailer for Guy Ritchie’s upcoming action thriller ‘In the Grey,’ offering a first look at the director’s latest globe-trotting mission led by Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González.

Written and directed by Ritchie, the film follows a covert team of elite operatives who operate in the shadows of global power. Equally comfortable using influence as they are automatic weapons and high explosives, the group is tasked with retrieving a billion-dollar fortune stolen by a ruthless despot.

But what begins as an already dangerous heist quickly escalates. As the mission spirals out of control, the team finds themselves caught in a high-stakes battle of strategy, deception, and survival.

The film centers on two key operatives: Bronco, a confident American played by Jake Gyllenhaal, and Sid, a more calculated British operative portrayed by Henry Cavill. Together with their handler, played by Eiza González, the team must navigate an increasingly dangerous mission where the stakes grow far beyond the original assignment.

The ensemble cast also includes Kojo Attah, Kristofer Hivju, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jason Wong, Michael Vu, Fisher Stevens, Rosamund Pike, and Carlos Bardem.

In the Grey marks another collaboration between Ritchie and Gyllenhaal following their work on the 2023 film The Covenant. The project also reunites the filmmaker with Cavill, whom he previously directed in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

The film was first announced in 2023 and completed production under an interim agreement that allowed filming to continue during the SAG-AFTRA strike. While originally slated for an earlier release, the project was delayed due to post-production timelines.

Black Bear ultimately acquired the U.S. theatrical distribution rights after launching its internal distribution operation. Lionsgate, which previously planned to release the film domestically, will now handle digital and pay-TV distribution.

The film is produced by John Friedberg, Dave Caplan, Guy Ritchie, and Ivan Atkinson.

In the Grey arrives during a particularly active stretch for Ritchie across both film and television. In recent years, the director has delivered multiple projects including The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and the adventure film Fountain of Youth, while also expanding into television with series like MobLand, Young Sherlock, and Netflix’s The Gentlemen.

In the Grey will be released in theaters May 15.
