Issa Rae and Donald Glover Join ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ [TRAILER]

Issa Rae and Donald Glover are heading to the Mushroom Kingdom.

The two actors have joined the voice cast of ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,’ the animated sequel to the billion-dollar hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The casting was announced during a Nintendo Direct livestream, where a new trailer for the upcoming film also debuted.

Rae will voice Honey Queen, while Glover takes on the role of Yoshi, the fan-favorite green dinosaur and longtime companion to Mario.

They join a returning voice cast led by Chris Pratt as Mario, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Several new characters are also entering the franchise. Luis Guzmán will voice Wart, while Brie Larson joins as Princess Rosalina, a character who first appeared in the 2007 video game Super Mario Galaxy. Benny Safdie will also join the cast as Bowser Jr.

The sequel expands the story beyond the Mushroom Kingdom, sending Mario, Luigi, and Peach into space for a new adventure. According to the newly released trailer, the trio will explore multiple planets — including a fiery volcano world, an underwater environment, and a neon-filled techno landscape with gravity-defying obstacles.

After their victory over Bowser in the first film, the heroes must once again face the Koopa King — this time alongside his son Bowser Jr. Along the way, they team up with Rosalina and Yoshi as they travel across the galaxy.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie continues Illumination and Nintendo’s animated expansion of the iconic video game franchise.

The film arrives in theaters April 1 from Universal Pictures, Illumination, and Nintendo.
