Issa Rae is continuing to evolve her digital storytelling footprint — this time stepping into the fast-growing world of microdramas.
Through Hoorae Media, Rae is partnering with TikTok to launch Screen Time, a new microdrama series designed for how audiences are increasingly consuming content: short-form, high-stakes, and built for engagement.
The series marks the first project under a broader deal between Hoorae and TikTok, which will also include a slate of creator-led micro-series rolling out across TikTok and PineDrama.
Inside ‘Screen Time’
The series centers on a double-date movie night that quickly spirals when a mysterious figure hijacks the TV, forcing the couples to reveal their deepest secrets or risk exposure.
As tensions rise, the night unravels into a high-stakes psychological game that threatens to upend relationships and expose hidden truths.
The cast includes:
- Brittney Jefferson (Rap Sh!t)
- Eric C. Lynch (Queen Sugar)
- Jasmine Luv (Tell It Like a Woman)
- Xavier Avila (Shrinking)
- Jenna Nolen (À La Carte)

Leaning Into the Microdrama Wave
Announced at TheWrap’s Creators x Hollywood Summit, the partnership positions Rae at the forefront of a growing shift in entertainment — where concise storytelling meets premium production.
Unlike traditional short-form content, microdramas are structured, narrative-driven series that deliver cinematic tension in bite-sized episodes. With Screen Time, Rae is tapping into that format while maintaining the culture-forward storytelling that defines her work.
A Bigger Play for the Future
Screen Time is just the starting point.
TikTok and Hoorae plan to expand into multiple genres — from comedy and thrillers to action and fantasy — building a pipeline of creator-led series that are accessible, culturally grounded, and designed for global reach.
As the lines between social media and traditional entertainment continue to blur, Rae’s move into microdramas signals where things are headed next: elevated storytelling, delivered in minutes, but still built to resonate.
